You can now correct a file you shared with Supriaha yourself
Sometimes a file ends up in Supriaha the wrong way. The reference code was read as the neighbouring file, and the text landed under someone else's book. The file was re-read with a newer Nyshporka, and the old version is no longer needed. The catalogue entry shows a year from the FamilySearch catalogue, but according to its title page the file covers different years. Or the file should never have been shared at all: the scans were bought under conditions that forbid sharing them.
Until now, only a moderator could fix any of this, and you had to write a letter. A re-read file went into Supriaha as a second version next to the old one, and anyone who opened the book saw both.
Now you correct your own file yourself.
What you can correct
| What happened | What to do |
|---|---|
| Wrong title, years, place or number of scans | correct the catalogue entry in Nyshporka and share the file again |
| The file was re-read better | share the new version in place of the old one |
| The reference code landed in someone else's file | withdraw the file from Supriaha and share it under the correct reference code |
| The file should not have been shared | withdraw the file from Supriaha |
The simplest way is to ask your assistant: “in Supriaha, file ДАВіО 904-24-54 went in under the wrong reference code, fix it”, “replace my file in Supriaha with the new reading”, “remove my file from Supriaha”. The assistant knows the commands itself and will ask why you are doing this: the moderator will see the reason, and so will you a year from now.
When a change takes effect at once, and when it goes through moderation
As long as nobody has used your file, the change takes effect at once.
If a moderator has already checked the file, or other researchers are writing notes on it, someone is already relying on it. Then moderation approves the change, and you receive the decision as a notification. Until then, the previous version stays in Supriaha.
The same goes for the catalogue entry. If you are the only one who shared the file with Supriaha, a corrected title or years appear at once. If the book has several authors, or a moderator has already edited the entry, your correction becomes a suggestion, and moderation will review it.
What never disappears
- A new version replaces the old one only once it has arrived in full. If sharing was interrupted, the previous version stays in Supriaha, and the file is never left empty.
- A withdrawn file disappears from the catalogue, but not from Supriaha's archive. Anyone who has already taken it keeps it. Moderation can return a withdrawn file to the catalogue.
- You can see who changed what. Every correction to a catalogue entry and every moderator's decision is recorded: what it was, what it became, who changed it and why.
Up to twenty changes a day. If you need to correct more, for example a whole fond, write to us and we will do it together.
If you have taken files from Supriaha
Nyshporka will now tell you if the author of a file you took has withdrawn it or replaced it with a new version. Your copy stays where it is, and Nyshporka will explain how to get the new one. Whether to rely on the old one is up to you.
It checks this when it refreshes its information about Supriaha: ask your assistant to “update the Supriaha data” or run nysh share sync.
For those who work without an assistant
| What | Command |
|---|---|
| Correct the entry | nysh share card <справа> --title "…" --years 1850-1856, then nysh share pack <справа> and nysh share publish <пакет> |
| Share a new version | nysh share publish <пакет> --replaces <номер> --why "чому" |
| Withdraw a file | nysh share withdraw <номер> --why "чому" |
| Check what you have taken | nysh share sync |
Nyshporka shows the file's number in Supriaha when you share it. You can also see it in My account on the website.
